The Baroque Palaces of Saint Petersburg

Saint Petersburg is called the City of Palaces because of the sheer number of palaces and castles found there, reminders of the city’s past as the capital of Imperial Russia.  Most splendid of these imperial palaces is the Winter Palace, a structure done in the baroque style.  Another baroque edifice in Saint Petersburg is the Menshikov Palace.

The Neoclassical Palaces of Saint Petersburg

Just as grand as the baroque palaces of Saint Petersburg are the neoclassical palaces.  A prime example of neoclassical architecture is St. Michael’s Castle, the principal residence of Tsar Paul, and the Marble Palace.
