When in Saint Petersburg, it is always possible to visit the many palaces of the aristocracy which still stand today. Many of these structures were converted into government facilities now but still retain the elegance of their original architectural designs anyway.

The Saint Petersburg City Legislature and the Offices of Representatives are housed in the Mariinsky Palace. The Moyka Palace still exists and is known as the site where mad monk Rasputin was murdered by Prince Yusupov. Major collections from the Russian Museum have been placed in the Michael Palace. Tauride Palace is home to the Assembly of Independent States.
