Mussorgsky Opera and Ballet Theater

It is St. Petersburg's second largest musical stage, whose repertoire includes world classics of opera and ballet.

The theatre opened its doors to the public in 1918 as a part of Mariinski theater, but became indpendent in 1990. It has the same classic repertoire as Mariinsky, and the troupe is superior class also. There are 1151 seats in this theater.

Musorgsky Theatre was built by the architect A.Brullov. Firstly the theatre building was mainly used as a concert hall. But there were opera performances among drama performances and musical comedies performed by the troupe of the Alexandrinsky theatre or coming French and German actors.

In 1859, the theatre was rebuilt and they made the inner shapes of the theatre similar to the requirements for scale opera and ballet performances. The superb repertoire of classical operas and ballets as well as the opulent interior of this theater make it well worth a visit.

Matinee performances begin at 11:30 am
Evening performances begin at 6:30 pm unless announced otherwise.
