International Early Music Festival

This charming festival is an indispensable addition to St. Petersburg's cultural scene. The aim is to present early music from the traditions of Western Europe, Russia and the East, with the greatest possible degree of historical accuracy.

This means using period instruments, props, and generally doing everything possible to recreate an authentic period performance.

Music by Russian and foreign composers who served at the Russian imperial court in the 18th century, music which was popular at the Italian and Spanish courts in the 17th century and other masterpiece of the European baroque period are performed as part of concerts.

It enjoys the support of the city Administration's culture committee and of the 2003 committee. The Festival takes place every autumn in St Petersburg's most prestigious concert halls and palaces.

Soloists and ensembles of world renown present the music of the Middle Ages, Renaissance, Baroque, and early Classicism.
