St. Petersburg International Dance Film Festival

This dance film festival attracts entries from all over Eastern Europe. The festival focuses on films that are about dance and has categories such as adaptation, original collaboration, virtual dance and documentary.

Different media; celluloid, video, animation, computer graphics, etc. are allowed. The screenings are held in different venues each year. The festival also holds the Russian Dance Films Competition.

Since 2001, St. Petersburg International Dance Film Festival Kinodance and Kannon Dance School have been organizing master classes that allowed dancers and filmmakers from Russia, CIS and Eastern European countries to explore dance film genre.

The artists demonstrate a stunning diversity of approaches to making dance films and exploration of choreographic space within the frame.

One of the prime attractions of the festival are music videos and fast- paced shorts realized through digital technologies such as “Imagine” by Zbigniew Rybchinsky and Yoko Ohno.
