The cheapest way of exploring St. Petersburg is by Regular Bus.St. Petersburg has a relatively extensive and growing system of buses. Commercial buses, which are somewhat more expensive but nevertheless relatively inexpensive and less crowded, are distinguished by the letter "K."

The Regular Bus Station has every thing that a bus station should. Not only can you buy tickets for domestic and international bus lines (daily to Tallinn, Helsinki, Riga), but you can also purchase international train and ferry tickets. Bus stops are indicated by square yellow signs marked with the letter "A". Regular buses have conductors on board. You can pay for your ticket in cash to a conductor or show him/her your monthly pass.

The sheer number of routes is staggering - they connect the city to the suburbs, and far- flung residential neighborhoods to metro stations, and are often the only public transport serving some parts of the centre (particularly the Mariinsky and Smolny neighborhoods, where metro stations are almost nonexistent). A city bus can be a lifesaver if you want to get from one end of Nevsky to the other for next to nothing.
